The Ninja Gaiden franchise is known for its high degree of difficulty, particularly the original NES version and the Xbox revival. A new game, titled Ninja Gaiden, was released in 2004 as a 3D action game on the Xbox, developed by Team Ninja, the makers of Dead or Alive. Sega also released two Ninja Gaiden games for the Game Gear and Master System, the latter only for PAL regions. The 8-bit trilogy was enhanced for the 16-bit Super NES in 1995.

The series gained popularity on the 8-bit NES for its tight action-platform gameplay, catchy music and, according to G4's X-Play, for being the first console game to have the story presented in cinematic cutscenes. As of 2008, the series has shipped over 7.7 million copies.

The original arcade version, first two Nintendo Entertainment System games and Game Boy game were released as Shadow Warriors in PAL regions. The word " gaiden" in the North American Ninja Gaiden title means “side story” in Japanese. The series was originally known as Ninja Ryukenden ( 忍者龍剣伝, Ninja Ryūkenden, "Legend of the Ninja Dragon Sword") in Japan. Recently, Team Ninja has been pretty forward about their troubles with getting the games onto modern consoles, as well as claiming that Ninja Gaiden 3 and Ninja Gaiden Yaiba weren't "right for the series".Ninja Gaiden ( NINJA 外伝) is a series of action video games by Tecmo featuring the ninja Ryu Hayabusa as its protagonist. The interview also revealed that the Master Collection will not have ultrawide support, which is a bit of a shame when combined with the fps cap, but also somewhat understandable when considering how old some of these titles are, and the reported difficulties in getting some of the older games onto newer hardware. This seemingly isn't the case from this interview, although considering Xbox's FPS Boost system, there could be something unique about the Xbox version of the game. However, a listing for the deluxe version of the game also implied that the Xbox Series version of the game would be able to hit "60fps+".

It was previously confirmed that the port would run at 4K and 60fps on all consoles except for the base PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

The specs for the PC version of the game haven't been released yet. This was previously mentioned in a Twitter post revealing the specs for the game, although it's unclear exactly which console this is in reference to, or if it's simply referring to players needing a powerful enough PC to run it. Yasuda also reconfirmed a previous bit of information by saying that the game may fluctuate in resolution and fps during gameplay. When asked about whether the port would include 120fps on the PC, Yasuda said that the game would run at 1080p, 60fps ordinarily, but could reach 4K, 60fps if the system is strong enough.
